Romeo y Julieta Cedros de Luxe No. 2 Cigar. One of Habanos SA’s last Corona vitolas in their portfolio. It is part of a triptych of cigars numbered 1 to 3, but the No. 1 went out of production in 2017. It has a distinctive feature, quite rare in Cuban cigars, as it is wrapped in a cedar sleeve, which imparts added flavour to the cigar. Romeo y Julieta is one of the most popular Cuban brands and not without good reason. The range of cigars that the brand offers will cater to any particular taste or preference, from a cigar smoking junior with their first Petit Julieta, to a true aficionado smoking a Churchill by the fire. Romeo y Julieta cigars are medium in strength, with a slightly bitter taste along with some sweetness and the classic Cuban profile.

Taking its name from the Spanish translation of the Shakespearean tragedy, Romeo Y Julieta was founded in 1875 by Manin Garcia and Inocencio Alvarez. The brand’s logo is adorned with gold medals, which symbolise the awards won at various tasting exhibitions.

The brand differentiated itself from competitors by offering their more wealthy customers personalised bands for their cigars. This is very much thanks to the salesmanship of Jose “Pepin” Rodriguez Fernandez who acquired the company in 1903. Among its devoted customer base was Sir Winston Churchill.

Rodriguez passed away in 1954 at the age of 88. After this time, along with the Cuban Revolution and nationalisation of the tobacco industry, the company moved to a new home, La Romana in the Dominican Republic. This is where production of Romeo Y Julieta cigars continues to this day.
