Gawith Hoggarth Balkan Flake Loose Pipe tobacco 25g
This is a tobacco for those who not only like Latakia, but love the stuff and in high volumes too. This jet black flake is made up from Virginia and Cypriot Latakia, no other Orientals needed. The tobaccos are pressed and cooked, resulting in a jet black plug. The cooking process removes the hot and bitey nature of Virginia, while still retaining some of the natural sweetness.
The flakes are cut to the usual Gawith Hoggarth size and break down with ease. Thanks to the cool texture of Latakia, this tobacco will still be reasonably cool to smoke if broken down finely. We find it is best folded into the pipe, it will require a few relights, but once you have it going, it produces a prodigious volume of thick and delicious smoke. The draw is a dirty, smoky, earthy texture which has underlying hints of woods, spices, leather and is surprisingly complex for its makeup. The Virignias sweetness is there carrying the flavours along, this does fade throughout the bowl and is replaced with pepperiness.
The smoke might not be overly strong in regards to the nicotine, but the flavour more than makes up for that. Not one with a pleasing room note for non Latakia or smokehouse fans. Best smoked outside on a cool or damp evening. If you love your Latakia and like a dirty, earthy smoke this is ideal.
