For years the Barling name has been synonymous with quality, vintage English pipes, renowned for their craftsmanship, engineering, and excellent smoking properties.
Barling was created in 1812 when Benjamin Barling, a talented silversmith, established a shop along Portland Place in central London and started silver bands and wind caps to meerschaum pipes to make them even more aesthetically pleasing and elegant. When briar pipes became more common in the mid-1800s, Barling applied silver accents to them as well.
In the early 1900s, Benjamin’s grandsons William and Edward Jr. decided to venture into pipe production, making their own briars instead of adding silver to other people’s pipes.
The era of the Barling family ended in 1960, and in 1970 production in London ceased. All Barling pipes were produced externally (by Peterson and Erik Nörding, amongst others).
In 2020, Oliver Kopp managed to secure the Barling name rights for Europe and the USA, adding the oldest existing brand name in pipe history to the family Kopp portfolio.

The Trafalgar series celebrates the kick-off of the Barling revival by Kopp. The series is named after the British Admiral Nelson’s famous 1805 victory over the Spanish-French armada.
Kopp chose a sterling silver lion’s head to celebrate the beginning of this new era.
